Memorial Day Activities

Memorial Day – Days are getting longer, temperatures are getting warmer, and summer is right around the corner. As the unofficial kickoff of the summer season, Memorial Day and what it is really meant to recognize can often get overlooked for the sake of a celebratory long weekend.

We want to bring the focus back to the heroes who lost their lives in service of our country. Here are some of our favorite ways to memorialize these individuals and their immeasurable sacrifices.

Memorial Day Activities

Memorial Day Activities:

Hold a Moment of Silence

Start the holiday with the respect and seriousness it deserves – by holding a moment of silence in remembrance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Send a Care Package

Join to remarkable organizations that sends care package to those families who got wounded and died in service. Check out Operation Gratitude and consider sending a care package this Memorial Day.

Attend a Memorial Day Parade

Additionally, hundreds of communities across the country gather together to hold a parade in honor of those who have passed in service to our country every Memorial Day. Participate and attend on your community!

With Veterans Day around the corner, it’s time to brush up on the day’s history and discover what you can do to honor our nation’s Veterans for their service!

Decorate Your Home

Additionally, show your support by decorating the front of your home and yard with patriotic displays of appreciation. Ensure to properly hang a flag, or decorate in red, white, and blues! We love this rustic metal aged iron star wreath by Anthropologie!

Donate to a Good Cause

Also, donating to the Department of Veterans Affairs or Homes For Heroes or any number of other organizations focused on assisting American Heroes is a purposeful way of giving back to living service men and women and veterans, thanking them for their service.

Pay Your Respects

Taking a quiet moment to pay your respects at a National Cemetary or volunteer to leave flags on the graves and clean up later.

Write a Letter

Another thoughtful way to honor fallen troops is to write a letter of thanks to their family members letting them know their sacrifice is not forgotten. This is a great activity to include the whole family.

Bake a Treat

Additionally, memorial Day is also about the time you spend with the people you care about. If you’re having friends or family over for the weekend, we recommend this delicious strawberry blueberry shortcake recipe in theme with the day.
